Even the right tip will damage a surface if you hold it 2 inches away. Start at the recommended standoff distance and adjust only if the cleaning action is weak.
Water alone will not lift oil, mold, or pollen film. Apply detergent from the bottom up, let it dwell for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse top down.
A 15-degree tip on a 1400 PSI electric washer gives you a weak, dribbling stream. Match the tip to what your machine can actually push.
PSI is the pressure that cuts the dirt. GPM is the water flow that rinses it away. A machine with lower PSI but higher GPM can clean faster than a high-PSI, low-GPM unit. When in doubt, favor flow over raw pressure on large flat surfaces.
Many rental machines are set to a fixed PSI you cannot adjust. In that case, control your results by changing the tip size and your standoff distance instead of chasing a number on the dial.
